This week I'm working on a series of small bowls.
I'm developing ideas and experimenting with a variety of gold leaf techniques, in preparation for my teaching week in August, at the West Dean Summer School.
These copper bowls are enamelled with opaque black enamel, and then applied with gold leaf. The fossil motif was screen printed and fired over the gold. I really like the effect of the leaf breaking up and fusing with the enamel. I confess that sometimes, I like to slightly over fire to make the gold burn out and crackle up even more - an organic pattern develops, but it is the art of serendipity ! You can never be sure just how it is going to work out !
